This baby hat is knit flat with directly needles and later seamed to finish.

The Yarn I Used To Knit The Infant Lid

I used Rico Creative Cotton Aran (50g/85m/93yds) for the hat in the color Smokey blue.

The cotton wool does on occasion split when you lot knit, like most cotton wool yarns but you can fix it and make information technology await neat with a piffling patience.

This is a medium weight yarn 04.

You can substitute with most cotton including most DK yarn that is compatible with size four.5mm (United states of america 7) knitting needles.

Size –

• This pattern is to fit baby size 0-3 months / three-half-dozen months / six-9 months.
• The first set of numbers applies to the small size, the second set to the medium size and the third to the big size.

Gauge –xviii sts and 24 rows in 4×iv inches / 10x10cm

The Supplies You Need

Yarn

• ane x Rico Artistic Cotton Aran 50g/85m/93yds in the color – Smokey Blue.
• Any medium weight yarn 04
• Yarn weight guide

Needles

• 4.5mm (The states 7) Knitting Needles

Notions

• Tape measure out
• Darning needle
• Pair of scissors

Abbreviations / Knitting Abbreviations List

• Approx = Approximately
• Beg = Begin(ning)
• Cont = Keep(ing)
• K = Knit
• K2tog = Knit side by side 2 stitches together
• P = Purl
• P2tog = Purl the next two stitches together
• Rem = Remaining
• Rep = Repeat
• RS = Right side
• St(south) = Stitch(es)
• St St = Stocking Sew together
• WS = Wrong side

Pattern

Time needed:3 hours and thirty minutes.

How To Knit A Baby Hat

1. The Turned Up Brim

   Cast on 54 (61/69) sts.
   Row 1 (RS): P1, K2 – rep to the end of the row.
   Row 2 (WS): P2, K1 – rep to the terminate of the row.
   Rep rows one and 2 until the piece measures 2″ (2.five″/3″) from the bandage-on edge.

2. The Primary Torso Of The Lid

   Row ane (RS): K1, P2 – rep to the end of the row.
   Row 2 (WS): K2, P1 – rep to the cease of the row.
   Rep rows i and 2 until you lot have worked 7″ (eight″/ix″) from the bandage-on edge ending with a WS row.

3. Decrease

   Row 1: K1, P2tog – rep to the end of the row.
   Row two: K1, P1 – rep to the end of the row.
   Row three: K2tog – rep to the end of the row.
   Row four: Purl – rep to the cease of the row.
   Row 5: K2tog – rep to the stop of the row.
   Row vi: Purl – rep to the end of the row.

   Cut yarn leaving a tail of around 15 inches.
   Thread through the rem sts and pull up tight.

4. Making Upward

   The last footstep is seaming the 2 edges of the baby hat together.
   I used a seaming technique called t he mattress stitch.
   This allows you to create an invisible seam in your knitting so you don't see where the edges meet.

   To practice this you:
   Place the edges together – line them upward.
   Start at the top of the hat, with the right sides facing you.
   Thread your needle and secure the pinnacle of the hat first with a stitch.
   Then kickoff to push button the needle through the first stitch on 1 side of the textile edge.
   So movement over to the other side and push button your needle through the kickoff stitch.
   Pull them together and go on to seam picking up an edge sew on one side and again on the other equally y'all go.
   Yous tin pick up stitches every one bar or 2 confined on the edges – this is up to you. I more often than not pick up every 2 bars.
   Just be careful that what you do to i side of the knitting should also exist washed on the other side to keep them even.

5. Finishing

   When y'all come up to the brim of the hat, you lot need to turn this over – and so the right sides are facing you to seam.
   This is so y'all get an invisible seam on the right sides of the knitted fabric.
   When you have finished seaming, secure your yarn on the wrong side and weave in whatever loose ends.
   Your baby chapeau is now finished.

6. Turn The Brim Over

   Turn the skirt over and cease by weaving in any loose ends.
